According to Boyce –

in the south wall of this taberna with thermopolium is an arched niche (h.0.45, w.0.35, d.0.25, h. above floor 1,10.

It was called by Fiorelli, “la nicchia dei Penati”.

Is this the terracotta pot shown here?  Above the counter were holes for shelving.
